The Animal Resources Centre produces and sells laboratory animals that are free from known disease causing organisms ie. specified pathogen free (SPF) animals. Many of the strains of animals produced have specified genetic characteristics. Production processes conform to high standards of animal welfare and meet requirements stipulated in the relevant codes of practice and legislation. Products are sold to organisations that undertake medical, veterinary, biopharmaceutical or other scientific research, and that are known to practice high standards of animal welfare. In Australia an operating Animal Ethics Committee, complying with the Code, must approve all animal usage requests before orders are shipped.
